How much discount should you give to friends when selling handmade crafts?
Question
I know someone who wants to sell their crafts and start a business but isn't sure what percentage discount is right to offer friends, family and colleagues. To give the items away fro free would scupper the business before it starts! But to charge full price seems wrong. Is there a standard percentage discount that is generally considered reasonable? Are the percentages for friends, family and colleagues different?
Answer
I don't think it seems wrong to charge full price, but if a discount is really necessary, I'd do a 10%-20% discount.
Does anyone have any good ideas for cheap storage for lots of Arts and Crafts Materials ?
Question
I have lots of Arts and Crafts Materials, with very little space, as I live in a one bedroom flat, and very little money. I've tried the usual cheap plastic boxes but so many little bits and bobs its hard to keep it accessible and in one place. And its driving me mad, as I have to try and dig stuff out. Any ideas I would be grateful.
Answer
Have you seen the cloth shoe holders that you can hang on a door. This could help you with some but label the openings as to what you put into it. Get some small plastic bags to the the items in to seperat them.
Do you know of any good arts and crafts activities for people with learning disabilities?
Question
I work on a ward with people who have learning disabilities. Our resources are extremely limited, i.e. we have no firing kiln and have only basic materials, such as paint, scissors, glitter, felt-tips etc. Please could you make suggestions for arts and crafts activities we could do. We have recently made mobile sculptures, beaded bracelets and birthday cards, but I'm fast running out of ideas!
Answer
You can buy "air dry clay" from most hobby and art shops or eBay, it doesn`t go rock hard but is fine for crafts, charity shops are great fro collecting jewellery making bits, ie old necklaces etc, just ask them for all the broken bits, (they usually bin them) , supermarkets and shops are great for getting large sheets of card and cardboard , just ask the manager, if you went to a charity shop and asked for old torn clothes, old unsalable bedding, lamp shades, old videos and anything they usually bin they may give them free for dress making, 3d modelling and sculptures, paints and brushes can be found quite cheeply but again it`s worth asking your local B&Q for a donation of these as I know they throw away tons of usable stuff every day,
Do you do arts and crafts with your kids, or have arts and crafts as a hobby ?
Question
How many of you enjoy arts and crafts as a past time ?
It seems that some of the more "old fashioned" crafts have been relegated to the older generation. Can you knit ? Can you do needlepoint ?
Answer
Yes I can knit, crochet, quilt, patchwork, bead, cross stitch, embroider, tapestry, have a go at a lot of things. Try to pass on my skills to children either at sunday school, of primary schools and to the local children in the neighbourhood. used to run a craft club at my old church.
My son who is now 20 has had a go at a lot of crafts and is now wanting to have a go at making a quilt and is quite happy to sew on his own buttons! He has inspired me a number of times to try something new!
It is upto the older generation to pass on their skills so that they are not lost.
