I've seen a news article about the new griffin iTrip on www.onlyfreebies.co.uk for the 4g iPod nano and wondered whether its likely to work for the old ipod mini as well?
they will work for any ipod with a dock connector - (eg NOT shuffles or first 2 gen's (2001 to 2003 models)
I know there are countless versions available but I've been warned that they vary significantly in quality
Well it depends on your car stereo really. If your car stereo allows you to manually tune it, then you are in luck but if your car stereo has automatic tuning, then its not going to work in your car as you need a free station for it to transmit through! I bought mine from www.iWorld.com as they are a reasonable price. The model i got was the Griffin iTrip with Dock Connector at £23.99. Its so easy to use!
I purchased a Griggin iTrip Auto today fro use with my iPod Nano for £39.99. It says in the instructions that a iPod dock is required, however I got no such thing when i purchased my Nano. I have tried plugging it straight into the Nano, it fots but does not work. Do I have to purchase a dock spereately?! Why doesn 't it just work when plugged into the Nano?
A dock is simply a stand that makes it so your iPod stands up while its charging. I dont quite understand how having a dock would make the iTrip not work.... The dock doesnt come with the nano...you have to buy it seperatly but...once again, I dont understand how having a dock would change the way the iTrip works. Also, isnt the iTrip auto only for your car? Wait...just read its perks. I see why it needs the dock. on the dock it has a special plug for "output" volume. This makes it so it plays at it maximum level through speakers. When you use this through your car, you only have to use your car stereo controls to make it louder, softer, or skip to the next song. well, thats a little annoying. But i guess you could buy the dock. Its useful and you can change the plates if you end up getting a new iPod. Hope it helps. :D
I have recently got an iTrip for my iPod, but how to use it is beyond me!! i am not very technology wise, please help here. Does it automatically tune into your radio? cause mine doesn't seem to do that. do you have to tune your radio to it? does it need to be a specific kind of radio (DAB digital etc?)
If you have an itrip with a display you just tune your radio into the station displayed (or can change the station manually, check griffin.com for more info) if there is no display on the itrip you need to load the software which comes with the itrip into your ipod which then sets up a playlist (fm frequency's) you then pick a frequency on your ipod then select/play some music and tune your radio in. Hope this helps :o)
I though I saw a Q on here about it being the wrong size? . . . . . . and are Griffin iTrips better than the Belkin FM transmitter?
It depends on the model. Older, discontinued versions of the iTrip will not work with the second-generation iPod nano. The link below shows you four choices of Griffin FM transmitters that will work with your 8GB nano. I just purchased the iTrip Auto to take my new nano on a Thanksgiving car trip. It worked perfectly and kept my iPod charged while on the road. If you're still shopping for an FM transmitter rather than wondering if the iTrip you already have will work, check out the iLounge buyers guide--there are reviews and comparisons of a number of different products. Good luck! Hope you will be enjoying your music in the car very soon! P.S. Just saw your additional question about Griffin vs. Belkin. iLounge picked the Belkin TuneFM as their choice for best FM transmitter. It looks like it's wider than a nano, which is why I didn't go for it, but it's certainly another option for you to consider.
