How to I go about doing a coast to coast cycle?
Question
I want to do a coast to coast- no real reason other than for fun and to push myself.
How long does it take?
What routes are there?
What essentials would I need?
Answer
Being you are from the U.K., I can't answer how long it would take you. Maybe no one could. The first thing you will need to do is train, train & train some more. Train til ya puke.
Essentials? #1) A good (and I mean GOOD) touring road bike, like the one on 1st link below. #2) Panniers to store your stuff...extra clothes, emergency medical kit, cell phone, money, contact phone numbers, etc. #3) Sleeping arrangements? You gonna spend every night in a sleeping bag or in a motel? #4) Meals? You gonna cook while on the road or stop for food? If packing a sleeping bag & cooking supplies, you will need a tow behind trailer, making training all the more important. #5) Did I mention money? Lots & lots of money or an American Express Card with no limit. #6) A way out. What to do if everything goes terribly wrong. I'm sure there are more things to do I just can't think about now...

What was the actual time of day, that the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami hit the east coast of Sri Lanka?
Question
I've looked around, and so far I have found people saying that it hit the east coast at 7:58am, 9:00am, and 11:54am. So seriously, what was the actual time of day that the tsunami hit the east coast of Sri Lanka.
Answer
As I remember the first wave hit around 9.20 am. But I'm not sure which part of the island it was. It could be the south, but then again the island is pretty small to have a big time difference. Out of your three answers the third one is definitely wrong. 9 - 9.20 would be a safe assumption.
Edit: Since the quake was near Sumatra, the south-east was the first to be hit. That's around the town of Hambanthota. So the south of the island is actually westward from there. That means, east gets hit before the south (Galle, Matara).
What places to see on the west coast of the states?
Question
I'm travelling from Vancouver to Seattle in mid May then looking to spend about 3 weeks going down the west coast as far as LA & across to Vegas.Just looking for any advice on what to see, where to stay & pretty much any advice in general.
Thanks in advance
Answer
Well, if you're going to make it to Los Angeles, you MUST make it to San Diego which is far more interesting than Las Vegas. The Point Cabrillo lighthouse is certainly one of the top half dozen places in the Western United States, and the trip to it rivals the Golden Gate Bridge, which you will, of course, have already visited.
I'd want to visit the Palm Springs Aerial Tram, and the Huntington Botanical Gardens in Pasadena. Don't forget the redwoods in the northwest end of California, and the Giant Sequoias east of Fresno in the Sierras.
